HH October Picks

Posted by Jenny Tellier on

It's a feel-good month over here. This October, we're celebrating many birthdays on the HH team and the anniversary of both of our Toronto shops. Get ready to celebrate with us!

These days, we're letting the cold seep in just enough to enjoy the refuge of a hot bath at the end of the day and the comfort of a table-side flame. We're layering scarves and skincare with haunting music and romantic reads as we feel into fall.

USING

Jenny: Living Libations Poetic Pits - Classic It smells so good that I've stopped using this as a deodorant and just put it on as a personal scent. I see what all the hype is about! Monastery Rose Cleansing Oil, J. Hannah Nail Polish in Blue Nudes, I just love a dark blue in fall.

Tara: My Baina Organic Cotton Pool Towel and Hawkins Simple Waffle Robe post-bubble bath are so cozy! I love the smooth, rich texture and grounding scent of the new Wildcraft Illuminate Frankincense and Geranium Body Cream.

Nat: Noto Agender Oil on my body. Monastery Flora Botanical Cream Serum yes, I use it all the time - I can’t stop. In my hair Living Libations Scalp Tonic before wash day, ALWAYS.

Julie: Ritual Alchemy's Daily Ritual Oil, Health Hut Eucalyptus, Vetiver, Petitgrain Bubble Bath, Tata Harper Water-Lock Moisturizer and Wonder Valley Hinoki Bar Soap. (a massive treat for the cooler months),

Kyra: F. Miller Toning Mist, I’ve been loving this nutrient-dense mist for a moisture boost and my skin has been feeling more balanced. Róen Cheeky Blush in Sunlit Coral for a pop of colour. I'm burning my Fenwick Fir Lavender and Eucalyptus Candle, so relaxing!

DOING

Nat: Shedding what isn’t working for me anymore: my summer clothing is being packed up, I'm desiring more rest and less screen time, and trying my best to let go of the in-between thinking that holds me back from committing to myself fully.

Tara: Organizing (at work and home), walking in the ravine, drinking delicious wine and getting back into a routine after a busy summer.

Jenny: Dry brushing and watercolour painting every day. I'm also launching a 4-week online meditation class on Sunday, Oct 23rd, Practice Make Practice.

Julie: Visiting family, stretching and warm water when I wake up and long walks in any green spaces I can get to!

Kyra: I'm enjoying all the little comforts this October: getting cozy, playing board games, reading, rewatching my comfort shows (mainly Freaks and Geeks).

EATING

Tara: I had dinner at Azhar on Ossington for the first time last week - okay, the pita - WOW! At home, a roast chicken is back in regular rotation.

Jenny: It's crock pot season, getting a turkey chili ready to go for the week with some sourdough from Blackbird Baking Co.

Kyra: I’m loving The Little Jerry - so yummy and special. Also, the best atmosphere and the BEST tunes.

Julie: Going back to soup-making and I always get inspired by looking at 101 Cookbooks, Heidi Swanson is a cozy meal Queen!

Nat: Sushi rice, seaweed and salmon bowl with chilli oil and a fried egg!

LISTENING

Kyra: Nick Hakim - such fall vibes for me

Jenny: Mother Earth's Plantasia by Mort Garson

Julie: Old school Amon Tobin on the record player!

Nat: Hako Yamazaki

Tara: Feist Radio on Spotify!

READING

Julie: Other People We Married by Emma Straub

Nat: Stigmata by Helene Cixous

Kyra: Right now, I’m re-reading 1Q84 by Haruki Murakami. A personal fave.

Tara: Getting ready to read Oh William! by Elizabeth Strout

Jenny: The Story of Art Without Men by Katy Hessel
