Oil Cleansing 101

Curious about Oil Cleansing but don't know if it's for you, or where to even start? We've got you.

Whether you're new to the idea or have dabbled and want to explore more options, we've gathered our best tips and recommendations to help you find exactly what you need to get that skin glowing and happy!

Oil Cleansing can seem daunting or counterintuitive, but really, it's an incredible way to deep cleanse your skin and remove all the SPF, makeup and pollution build up. It binds to all these unwanted substances and leaves pores squeaky clean, without stripping any moisture away! It's also a great way to balance out any excess oil build-up, so whatever your skin type, oil cleansing might be a great option for your routine! Now, where to begin?

*Most Oil Cleansers are, in essence, created to support all skin types, but we've divided them up for those who are looking to target more specific needs!

Normal/Dry Skin

Tata Harper Nourishing Oil Cleanser

This cleanser can be used morning and night, to help restore dry, uneven skin. It's packed with botanicals to soothe and nourish - and it smells divine!

Living Libations Best Skin Ever Seabuckthorn

A best-seller here at HH and a bit of a cult product! This oil cleanser can also be used as a moisturizer so for those of who who can't get enough of it, it's an all-in-one!

Province Apothecary Moisturizing Cleanser & Makeup Remover

This cleanser will decongest the pores, tone the skin and removes makeup fuss free! With oils like Frankincense and Bergamot, you're skin will be hydrated and happy.

Oily/Combination

Living Libations Best Skin Ever - Sandalwood

The only blend in this incredible line that is coconut oil free, which can be a tad clogging and heavy for some. If you're looking to reduce redness, uneven skin tone and re-balance that excess oil, this one's a keeper!

Wildcraft Wash Oil Cleanser

This blend will calm the skin, reduce irritation and has a lovely scent combination that is both woodsy and floral. The combination of Olive, Flax and Marshmallow Root-infused Sunflower Oil will keep your skin dewey.

Sensitive Skin

Pai Light Work Rosehip Cleansing Oil

This beautiful blend is gentle yet oh-so-effective! Will replenish your skins moisture and get all that unwanted grime out without irritating or disrupting your natural ph balance. This oil emulsifies beautifully, so start dry and add a dab of water!

F. Miller Cleansing Oil

This rich and silky formula transforms to a milk, making it easy to rinse off (a plus for those who would rather not use a cloth) and deeply purifies while soothing sensitive skin, leaving a nice natural glow!

How To's

Oil goes a long way, so 1-2 pumps is usually more than enough. Apply the oil onto dry skin and massage deeply (this is also amazing for blood flow and lymphatic drainage) then apply a dab of water to slightly emulsify (some oil cleansers will do this more than others so read instructions when in doubt). Most oils will not rinse off completely with water, which is why removing the product with a damp, warm cloth is usually recommended. This step will also add a small amount of stimulation and exfoliation, and feels oh-so-good!

Oil Cleansers are great at removing makeup, so for those who love a multi-use product, it's a one-stop-shop! And if you like to double cleanse (a great option on days you need to remove many layers of product or grime, especially sun block) starting with an oil cleanser is recommended, then follow up with a cream or water based product! Your skin will be balanced, nourished and ready for that summer glow.

The only issue will be choosing your favourite!
