Scents For Your Home + Aromatherapy 101

Aromatherapy is a beautiful way to quickly create a harmonious space and impact mood! There are so many easy ways to enjoy Aromatherapy in our every day - so let’s take a deep breath and get started!

Here are three easy ways that you can enjoy Aromatherapy :

Diffusion: Diffusing is a beautiful way to enjoy essential oils. It’s a great way to control how strong or light the scent in your space will be, the Ionization helps refresh and cleanse the air in your space and you can have fun tailoring what you diffuse for specific purposes!  Add 3-5 drops for a lighter scent, those who enjoy a stronger presence, 10 drops is usually good.

Candles/Incense: A softer and very cozy way to incorporate the benefits of Aromatherapy into your environment! Also a good option for those who can be more sensitive to scents, or, if you have a smaller space and aren’t ready to commit to a diffuser.

Mists:  I love a good mist! This is a super fun, portable and efficient way to enjoy Aromatherapy either as part of your skincare routine, a quick refreshing uplift (or soft relaxing moment) or even within your space to cleanse the air. *A fun way to maximize these is to use your fave relaxing mist (or toner) over bed linens and pillows. The smell of soothing lavender, rose or jasmine is so restful!

There are so many oils, so many combinations and products out there, it can get a little overwhelming. Keep it simple. My hard and fast rule is usually “The Nose Knows.” Of course there are a few helpful things you can use to navigate the use and purpose of oils! Here are a few!

Wake Up and Focus:

This time of year, light changes and so do our sleep cycles. If you need support with feeling more awake, focused and uplifted, look to these notes:

Most citrus oils:  Think Lemon, Lime, Grapefruit and Bergamot - these oils are liquid sunshine. They’re also natural mood boosters, which is great during the darker months!

Peppermint, Rosemary, Basil & Eucalyptus: are great oils for mental clarity, focus and waking up! They are cooling and great for the office space! I often call Rosemary the “Brain Booster” as it excels in keeping your mental faculties sharp and clear!

Cleanse/Ground/Refresh:

If you’re looking to just refresh your air quality, ground and cleanse your space, looking to the “trees” is a great option:

Cedar, Fir, Pine, Spruce:  These oils have great cleansing and antimicrobial properties. They ground and calm the senses and absorb unwanted odours, which is great for indoor spaces!

Relax/Unwind/Nighttime:  As the day unwinds, it’s so nice to take some time to enjoy scents that help soothe, relax and unwind your senses. Here are some all-star oils for optimal sleep and de-stressing:

Lavender, Jasmine, Chamomile, Neroli, Clary Sage: For those who enjoy a floral, herbal and deep scent, these are excellent for deep relaxation and resetting your nervous system.

Frankincense, Myrrh, Palo Santo, Benzoin, Marjoram, Vetiver: If you prefer earthy, woody and cozy scents, these oils are beautifully soothing and unwinding.
